For me, to write for dancers is something completely different than to write for voices on stage, or even to unfold a concrete plot. A singer is rather static. By the time hes produced a tone, its already disappearing. Dance, in turn, seems like the speed of light moving about freely in the universe. The relationship to the pulse is also much more difficult in dance. This plays a rather subordinate role for singers, for whom the production of sound stands at the center of their artistry. But in dance, the delicate fluctuation of pulse and speed – thus, of time – is a very sensitive process. Time and space emerge here as in a cosmogony.
