Of course, no-one will have time to look at the "Breitkopf Archiv" while playing these pieces on the piano. Although the first edition of the famous "Kinderszenen" is a pleasure to look at, the artistic refinements of Breitkopf's 19th-century editions have to be admired in leisure.

The "Breitkopf Archiv" collection got off to an eye-catching start with its first three publications, piano pieces by Liszt and Schumann. With Schumann's "Lieder für die Jugend", the series moved into the field of vocal literature, where it is sure to win over new fans to the art of music publishing in the 19th century.
