In Die Ballade vom Wasserrad (The Ballad of the Water Wheel) water stands for the human collective, driving the wheel of the powerful. And yet in the movement, below and above are repeatedly intermixed. Rise and fall, compared with luminaries, eagles, tigers, and hyenas in the power struggle, ending only when the water stops driving the wheel. But is that possible?
