Franz Schubert (1797–1828)
Foremost among Franz Schubert's compositions are his symphonies, masses and abundant song collections, with over 600 titles including the Lieder cycles "Winterreise," "Die schöne Müllerin" and "Schwanengesang."
Breitkopf & Härtel began the publication of the Schubert Complete Edition in 1884. Among the "Breitkopf Urtext" editors of the symphonies are such distinguished scholars as Peter Gülke and Peter Hauschild. Contemporary composers such as Hans Zender and Siegfried Matthus created noteworthy orchestral arrangements of “Schuberts Winterreise” and “Der Tod und das Mädchen.”
