Barbara Maurer (*1963)
Barbara Maurer studied viola at the Musikhochschule Freiburg under Ulrich Koch. Subsequently she continued her studies with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, thanks to a stipend from the German Academic Exchange Service.
She concentrated on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, especially the solo viola literature, and works together with composers from around the world. Since 1989 Barbara Maurer is the violist of the ensemble recherche and the trio recherche. To the present day she has premiered about 40 works for solo viola.
