The terms “play” and ‘playful’ do not mean “effortless,” but rather describe a very alert, attentive, and active way for children to engage with a challenge. With the help of the suggestions in the teacher's commentary (BV 395), you can select specific games for a learning step and plan them into your lesson. Or you can view the educational games and suggestions as an expanded repertoire of methods that you can use as needed to respond to problems that arise spontaneously during the lesson.
