“This volume offers a collection of short contemporary pieces for the resp. Solo instrument. The series addresses musicians who are particularly interested in contemporary music and seek ways of becoming familiar with this domain. Many pieces were written especially for this collection and I wish to thank the composers who were so kind as to write them. Other pieces have been drawn from larger works.
The compositions have the character of studies. Each treats in detail a specific technical problem found in new music, without however exceeding a certain level of difficulty. I have attempted to arrange the pieces so as to lead the student progressively from the more traditional techniques to newer ones, and from there to the very new and unusual.”
