This volume presents for the first time the three relevant editions of Liszt's work on the music, culture and history of the “Gypsies.” As the main texts, the first version in French, published in 1859, and the German adaptation by Peter Cornelius, published at the end of 1860, are compared synoptically.
Finally, Appendix I also offers the second French-language version from 1881, which was authorized, heavily revised and expanded by Liszt.
