Fritz Geißler turned to the stage very late in his life. His first opera, "Der zerbrochene Krug", was preceded by three ballets. Its successful premiere was followed by more than 100 subsequent performances in productions created for the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin, the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater in Schwerin as well as at the opera houses of Graz, Wuppertal, Bonn and others.
