Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was one of the most creative composers of his time. This is evidenced by more than a hundred printed collections of usually six multi-movement sonatas or suites that were published during his lifetime. The duets presented here are characterized by tonally highly appealing and compositionally original solutions, which nevertheless do not lack complaisance. The violin part reminds in its chordal, but not difficult, construction of a continuo realization for violin and thus functions quasi as an accompanying instrument to the flute.
Our edition follows the first edition published in Paris in 1734 and is carefully provided with fingerings for the violin.
