Description
“Only those who have roots grow wings” – Roots is a commissioned composition by the SAP Symphony Orchestra on the occasion of the 70th birthday of SAP founder and patron Dietmar Hopp. The work was premiered at a gala event in Walldorf on April 26, 2010.
In this symphonic parable, Reinhard Seehafer sets phases of the dedicatee’s life to music. A powerfully propulsive beginning is followed by a pensive, choral passage, followed by a lilting waltz based on the Dorian scale. In the last third, things get stormy, with harmony and timbre moving in the direction of the musical. The composer uses motifs from the Provençal drinking song from the early 19th century, which is also the basis for the goal anthem of the TSG Hoffenheim soccer club.
