Schubert – Die Erinnerungen seiner Freunde
Description
The fact that this circle was defined not only by personal proximity but also by artistic affinity is evidenced by the frequency with which the composers Franz Liszt, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and Robert Schumann are mentioned.
The Austrian music historian Otto Erich Deutsch (1883-1967) repeatedly dealt with the life and work of Franz Schubert in the course of his academic career. The Schubert volumes “Die Dokumente seines Lebens ”(The Documents of His Life) and Die Erinnerungen seiner Freunde (The Memories of His Friends) are the result of decades of research. Extensive preparatory work dates back to 1912 – even when completing the manuscripts in 1963 and 1952, Deutsch was able to draw on sources that were previously unknown to Schubert researchers.
Deutsch’s careful commentary and two detailed indexes facilitate access to this unique collection of material.
