vocal text: GermanDescription
Johann Nepomuk David’s oratorio “Ezzolied” premiered in Berlin in May 1960. On this occasion, RIAS Berlin, represented by the head of the classical music department, Dr. Thomas M. Langner (1920-1985), commissioned David to compose a vocal work. It was to be broadcast as part of the musical “Vespers” program, which aired every Saturday at 6 p.m. The composer probably chose the text for the composition himself, which is being published here for the first time and thus made available to a wider audience. It is a German-Latin double text of a thoroughly ecumenical nature, as already seen in David’s earlier works, such as the eight-part motet “Ex Deo nascimur” (1936), but also in other earlier and later vocal works.
