Schubert – Die Dokumente seines Lebens
gesammelt und erläutert von Otto Erich Deutsch
Description
“Schubert – Die Dokumente seines Lebens” (Schubert – The Documents of His Life) is indispensable for understanding the biographical stages of Franz Schubert’s life. The volume contains all the essential public documents (concert programs, announcements, reviews, publisher’s advertisements, diary entries, letters, etc.) and outlines Schubert’s life from his parents’ marriage certificate to the first obituaries in 1829.
The Austrian music historian Otto Erich Deutsch (1883-1967) repeatedly dealt with the life and work of Franz Schubert in the course of his academic work. The Schubert volumes “Documents of His Life” and “Memories of His Friends” are the result of decades of research. Extensive preparatory work dates back to 1912 – even when completing the manuscripts in 1963 and 1952, respectively, Deutsch was able to draw on sources that were unknown to Schubert researchers at that time. Deutsch’s detailed, careful commentary, an extensive appendix, and two detailed indexes facilitate access to this unique collection of material.
Conductor and musicologist Peter Gülke has dealt extensively with Franz Schubert’s biography and oeuvre in several book publications and sheet music editions. In his foreword, Gülke offers a warm tribute to Otto Erich Deutsch’s contributions to Schubert research over the past decades.
