Description
Franz Schubert's Des Tages Weihe (D 763, op. post. 146) [The Consecration of the Day] is a special work full of devotion and tonal beauty. This solemn hymn for four voices and piano was composed in 1822, at a time when Schubert was increasingly turning to sacred music. Inspired by a request from Baroness von Geymüller, he composed this impressive work for a friend who had overcome a serious illness. The poetic text begins with "Schicksalslenker, blicke nieder" [Ruler of fate, look down on us] and sets the praise of God to music in an impressive way.
Particularly exciting for choirs: Thanks to Ernst Naumann's orchestration, Des Tages Weihe can be performed not only in the original version with piano, but also with a small orchestra. This opens up a wide range of possibilities in terms of sound, be it in a concert hall or a church.
A must-have for all lovers of Schubert's choral music!
