Bartolomeo Campagnoli was an Italian violin virtuoso who was renowned throughout Europe towards the end of the 18th century. In 1797, he became concert master of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, where he remained nineteen years. In addition to his brilliant instrumental concertos, his pedagogical compositions are of considerable importance. These include the violin duets op. 14. They were published during his lifetime and reflect their didactic aim in their original title “6 Duos faciles et progressives pour deux violons”.
