Description
Tchaikovsky's last symphony is an exceptional phenomenon in 19th-century orchestral music, distinguished by its consistently realized tragic message and extraordinary musical form. Due to the composer's sudden death shortly after the premiere, the Pathétique has been shrouded in legend since the beginning of its reception history. However, the music in no way heralds the death of its composer, who considered it his best and most honest of all his works.
This edition provides musicians with a critical musical text based on the autograph for the first time. All aspects in question are examined and discussed, and practical performance tips are provided, such as those on the intertwined string parts in the finale.
