Description

During Beethoven’s time, the “Deutscher” (German Dance) was a highly popular fashion dance enjoyed across all social classes. Between 1795 and 1800, Beethoven composed two sets of these pieces (WoO 8 and 13, featuring a total of 24 dances) for a Viennese pensioners’ association.
This selection of nine movements offers rewarding, compact, and easily accessible performance material. With their repeating four- and eight-measure sections, the dances open up many possibilities for a performance rich in contrasts regarding dynamics, articulation, and musical character.
