Breitkopf at the Organ
Concert. Liturgical. Practical.

Organ music is a central part of our publishing program, encompassing works for liturgical use and concert performance, as well as collections spanning nearly every period of music history. Alongside key figures of the North German organ school, such as Buxtehude and Bruhns, our catalog includes major organ works of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as carefully selected rediscoveries.

We place a particular focus on the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Our award-winning ten-volume Urtext edition reflects the latest advances in Bach scholarship. Thanks to their clear, compact, legible layout and convenient page turns, our organ editions offer the highest level of quality and practicality for teaching, studying and concert performance.

“The team of distinguished editors is characterised by the highest level of expertise. The musical text itself is clear and well organised, with excellent page turns. Of particular importance to me are the modern approaches to editorial technique. Incerta, early versions, and alternative versions are published online, commented on, and presented synoptically.

These and many other reasons convinced me to use the new Bach edition from Breitkopf for my CD recording with Deutsche Grammophon.”

– Christian Schmitt · Professor of Organ, Codarts Rotterdam · Stuttgart

“My experience with the new Breitkopf edition has been excellent: the new edition of Bach’s complete organ works published by Breitkopf combines, in an ideal way, the latest advances in Bach research with musical practicality, textual criticism with the consideration of different readings, and scholarly rigour with the joy of performance—in short, the Bach edition of the twenty-first century. Highly recommended!”

– Prof. Ruben Sturm · Cathedral Organist · Rottenburg
