Description
The chamber music work Fagöttliches Delirium was commissioned by David Petersen, principal bassoonist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, for his bassoon students at the Landesgymnasium Latina August Hermann Francke in Halle/Saale to participate in the “Jugend musiziert” competition. The one-movement character piece was to include a series of “special effects” such as pipe crowing, trills, and key noises. The humorous variation piece uses a moderately modern tonal language and challenges children and young people with various rhythmic refinements such as time changes, triplets against eighth notes, and dotted notes. The playful character of the piece requires the performers to play boldly and confidently and to have an adequate stage presence.
