Organ Method
Technical and Creative Fundamentals of Artistic Organ Playing
[org]
AlemánThe popular standard work, now available from Breitkopf
- An introduction to organ playing based on the Romantic and Modern eras
- Parallel development of playing technique, ear training and stylistic sensitivity
- A selection of short, varied original works from the 18th to the 20th century
- Useful practice tips accompany the learning process
Description
This organ method integrates the creative and technical experiences of organ students with a piano background right from the start. For this reason, the technical fundamentals of organ playing are first developed using 19th- and 20th-century organ repertoire. Only then does the 18th century follow, which – from the student’s perspective – is more distant.
Stylistic and interpretive themes are presented within the context of their respective eras and developed alongside the students’ own musical creativity. Specific practice tips help integrate ear training, motor self-awareness and memory. To accustom students to the artistic responsibility of creating a cohesive whole early on, the method uses unabridged compositions of widely varying character.
