Piano Trio No. 1 in B major Op. 8
Urtext based on the Brahms Complete Edition of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna
[vl,vc,pno]
Description
The Piano Trio in B major is one of Johannes Brahms’ early works. It was composed in 1853/54. The first edition was published at the end of 1854 by Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig.
Many years later, Brahms fundamentally revised the work, significantly reducing the length of the first, second, and fourth movements, and Clara Schumann reported that he had rewritten the work. The first edition of the second version was published in 1891 by N. Simrock in Berlin. In the complete edition Johannes Brahms: Sämtliche Werke, published by the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, both versions were published on an equal footing in the volume on piano trios.
