Thinking. Creating. Performing.

Since the 18th century, Breitkopf & Härtel has stood for music theater of lasting significance. This tradition continues to this day. Operas, ballets, and scenic works are published by Breitkopf & Härtel as a living repertoire – historically grounded, artistically open and edited with performance in mind.

Foundations of the Repertoire

With first editions of key stage works by Mozart and Beethoven, Breitkopf & Härtel established itself early on as a leading publisher of opera and music theatre. The first printings of Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and Fidelio mark the beginning of a publishing tradition that continues to shape the repertoire to this day.

This line was continued in close collaboration with Richard Wagner – among other things through the first editions of Lohengrin and Tristan and Isolde. The works that follow form the historical foundation on which our stage repertoire is built.
