Eisler: Die letzte Nacht
Epilog zu "Die letzten Tage der Menschheit" von Karl Kraus
The centenary of Hanns Eisler’s birth in 1998 has left its mark on concert life. One of the results is a growing demand for Eisler’s incidental music: Die letzte Nacht gave its world premiere at Vienna’s Musikverein on 24 October in a concerted given by the ensemble "die reihe” under HK Gruber, a congenial interpreter of Eisler’s music. This music for the epilogue of "Die letzten Tage der Menschheit” by Karl Kraus consists of six instrumental pieces and a couplet for voice and piano. The score fell into complete oblivion after the world premiere at the legendary Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin on 15 January 1930.
