Mozart: Piano Concerto in A major K. 488
Breitkopf Urtext - Coproduction with Henle Verlag ed. by Ernst-Günter Heinemann
The publishing houses of G. Henle in Munich and Breitkopf & Härtel are continuing their cooperation on Mozart's piano concertos this spring. After the Piano Concerto K. 467, it is now the turn of the A major Concerto K. 488. One of the most frequently performed concertos of all, it was written while Mozart was working on the opera "Le nozze di Figaro." The source situation is clear: the autograph score has survived, and the first printed editions were not published until after Mozart's death.
The publishers each have their own tasks: Henle begins by bringing out the version for two pianos, and Breitkopf follows this up by releasing the conducting score, the orchestral parts and the study score. Ensuring the now expected high editorial quality of the new editions are, for one, pianist András Schiff's polished fingerings and stylistically flawless cadenzas, and, for another, the preparation of each concerto by a Mozart expert according to uniformly established guidelines that guarantee a maximum of authenticity in the production of the music text.
