Bach Editions for the 21st Century
ed. by Kirsten Beißwenger, Werner Breig, Pieter Dirksen, Klaus Hofmann, Barthold and Sigiswald Kuijken and Joshua Rifkin

"I can imagine cellists preferring to play from the new Breitkopf edition of the Cello suites partly because it is free from the distraction of variants on the stave, partly because the more compact layout reduces page-turns. All editorial matter is in German and English. The Breitkopf edition is well-printed and quite cheap, with a good musical text backed by a smallish facsimile of the Anna Magdalena manuscript.” (Clifford Bartlett, Early Music Review, November 2000)

Kirsten Beisswenger's edition (EB 8714) presents an unequivocal musical text that is based on Anna Magadalena Bach's copy and standardizes the few inconsistencies. All of the editor's decisions can be retraced, since A.M. Bach's copy is completely reprinted in facsimile. Kirsten Beisswenger's new edition is a worthy new companion to Barthold Kuijken's Bach editions, about which Rachel Brown wrote a glowing review in "Pan Magazine":

"I am very, very impressed by the new Breitkopf/Kuijken edition of Bach's Flute Sonatas that I bought yet another copy when I discovered to my horror that I was en route to a recital abroad without my music. Breitkopf (make sure it’s the new edition by Barthold Kuijken you buy) publish each sonata separately which inevitably works out more expensive, but with the amount of extra information and inclusion of flute and bass parts together this is a bargain. Everyone should have these, even if they already possess other editions." (Pan Magazine, June 2000)
