Years of Romanticism
The years 2010, 2011 and 2013 mark the 200th anniversaries of the birth of the birth of no fewer than four great Romantic composers:
Frédéric Chopin on 1st March 2010, Robert Schumann only a few months later, on 8 June, then Franz Liszt on 22 October 2011 and Richard Wagner on 22 May 2013.
All four composers cultivated close contacts with Breitkopf & Härtel, which published during their lifetime such important works as Schumann’s “Kinderszenen” as well as his first and fourth symphonies, Wagner’s “Lohengrin” and “Tristan und Isolde,” Chopin’s Piano Concerto op. 21 and Liszt’s symphonic poems. The Leipzig publisher’s high professionalism and flawless musical engraving were particularly appreciated by these composers.
Breitkopf & Härtel will be honoring these anniversaries with its customary top-quality editorial care by making available exemplary Urtext editions as well as first-class performance material. Professional orchestras, opera houses, student and amateur ensembles all hold our editions in high esteem. A look at the music desks of the leading orchestras and opera houses makes it amply clear that musicians the world over enjoy playing from Breitkopf sheet music. It helps make the dream of a stage production or concert performance come true, and takes youths by the hand as it leads them into the world of classical music. Let yourself be “romantically” inspired by our special publication program for the years 2010, 2011 and 2013!
