The new edition of the Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture (PB/OB 5364) is only one element of the four-part Breitkopf Urtext project  “Mendelssohn – The Four Great Concert Overtures” which precedes the volume planned for the Complete Edition by the editorial director Christian Martin Schmidt. Similarly serious and audible new findings of importance to performers are expected from the critical examination of the major sources for the overtures to “Die Hebriden” op. 26 (PB/OB 5504), “Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt” op. 27 (PB/OB 5503) and “Das Märchen von der schönen Melusine” op. 32 (PB/OB 5505).
