It is curious, to say the least: although the existence of Clara Schumann's "Sonat(in)a" of 1841/42 was by no means a secret (see MGG or Grove's), it apparently crossed no one's mind to publish it or perform it. It was not until summer 1989 - as Gerd Nauhaus had already begun to prepare this first edition - that the work was given its well deserved and long awaited world premiere.
